The saying goes something like this: “Dance like no one is watching, but text and email like it will be read in Court one day.” Now, hold that thought! Free tip to follow…

Back to our saying… This couldn’t be more true. Many conflict situations (divorce, small claims, property disputes, etc.) can lead to elevated emotions, and the urge to lash out can be irresistible. Think about this: Your social media post, your text, your email, they may all be printed out and used as exhibits in Court one day. Would you like to have an Attorney hand you a piece of paper with your text printed on it and ask you to read it out loud to the Judge? If the answer is “no,” then don’t send that text!
Texts, emails, and social media posts are often admissible, and may be used to discredit you or impeach your previous testimony. Don’t put yourself (or your Attorney) in the position to try to explain a hostile post or text. Take a breath and vent to your pet about it.
